It can be difficult to pin down a diagnosis for a neurological condition. Symptoms may come and go or not follow a typical pattern for the disease. Patients with rare conditions may be misdiagnosed. Unfortunately, some see their health deteriorate rapidly without knowing why.

The UCSF Neurology Complex Diagnosis Clinic is designed for these cases. Guided by the latest research findings and aided by the most advanced diagnostic tools available, our team strives to deliver answers for patients with neurological symptoms that have eluded a clear diagnosis.

To arrive at the right diagnosis, we bring together experts from many disciplines. Our core team includes neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons and neuropsychologists. As needed, we consult with experts from other specialties, such as medical genetics, rheumatology, endocrinology, psychiatry and otolaryngology.

We've arranged our services to make the process easier for patients. Before the evaluation, a neurologist will carefully review your medical records to make sure we ask the right questions. During the evaluation, we take a comprehensive medical history, piecing together a time line of your symptoms and considering all possible contributing factors.

Should you need additional diagnostic testing, we'll coordinate the appointments to take place over one to two days. Many tests can be performed at the state-of-the-art Weill Neurosciences Building, where our clinic is located.

After the evaluation, we will provide a clear summary of our findings and recommendations for your next steps.

We are part of the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences.
